  Desert landscape: the treatment spas

Planters brings element of nature into Abu Dhabi hotel

Creates relaxing oasis within conference centre

PLANTERS, a leading landscaping firm, has brought in the natural environment to the Hyatt Capital Gate Hotel, in Abu Dhabi, UAE, creating a desert theme within the 5-star treatment spas and a relaxing oasis within the Conference Centre.

The five-star spa treatment facilities evoke the natural tranquility of the desert, says Planters managing partner Jonathan Pardoe.

“This was achieved using a new technique of sculpting artificial sand dunes around the periphery of each room, giving it an authentic look and feel of the desert. Rather than using piles of sand, natural sand was carefully moulded (by Planters expert artisans) into solid dunes that hold their shape and requires no maintenance, therefore creating long lasting features within the spas,” he said.

Working closely with the designer, Nick Stoupas of RPW Design, UK, and under the project management of Huda Al Mughrabi, of Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Planters was also tasked with installing three artificial Ficus trees to the conference centre. The trees, measuring 5.5 m in height, bring an element of nature into what is otherwise a formal business location, as well as creating a focal point within the large open area of the centre.

“The project has been a great success for Planters and has given us the opportunity to collaborate with top designers, to create interior landscapes that offer the ‘wow’ factor to its guests,” he said. “At planters we pride ourselves on delivering creative concepts combined with industry knowledge, and with this project we have received many positive complements on the quality and finish of both spaces within the hotel.”
