  Zammit: A new dimension

Dubai gears up for ‘Design Days’

Inaugural event dedicated to collectible, limited-edition design

DESIGN Days Dubai, the first fair dedicated to collectible and limited edition design in the Middle East and South Asia region, will take place in Dubai, UAE, this month (March 18 to 21) at a purpose-built venue in Downtown Dubai.

Held in partnership with Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Design Days Dubai is a forward-thinking concept that presents exclusive and limited edition furniture, objects and works by international designers.

The event will also coincide with the contemporary art fair Art Dubai, and is an integral part of Art Week. Design Days Dubai is the first-of-its-kind design fair in the Middle East, bringing the most exclusive selection of limited edition design to the region, said the organisers.

Bringing a fresh dimension to the region’s arts and design scene, Design Days Dubai will showcase the path-breaking works of leading design galleries and the most innovative of designers from around the world.

They will present their limited edition designs including accessibly priced works.

These rare and truly unique designs at Design Days Dubai will appeal to a broad public – from design connoisseurs, architects, design enthusiasts, and designers to students and graduates -- looking for inspiration, and for exclusive designed objects for their homes and workspaces.

Some of the world’s top-tier galleries specialising in 20th and 21st century design, from over 14 countries, will take part in the high-end fair, serving as a testament to its fundamental goal of drawing influential clients and collectors as well as industry luminaries from across the world to Dubai.

The innovative event, a vibrant addition to the region’s cultural scene, will enable visitors to interact with international designers and experts and make informed decisions on choosing unique collectibles and limited edition pieces that are a valuable investment or simply for adorning their homes or workplace.

Visitors can also register and take part in specialised design workshops that are free to the public.

Cyril Zammit, fair director of Design Days Dubai, said: “We are excited to present the first design fair in the region, focused on rare and limited-edition design. It offers a new dimension to how we understand design, and will be a new experience for visitors.”

Zammit pointed out that Dubai is established as the regional centre for contemporary art galleries, and is a city known for its innovative approach to architecture: now is the perfect time to launch a major, new event dedicated to contemporary design.

“With design already enjoying a global boom, its investment potential – with prices often on par with fine art -- will be highlighted by Design Days Dubai, bringing a new trend to the region,” he added.

At the event, Van Cleef & Arpels will showcase its latest high jewellery collection “Bals de Légende” for the first time in the Middle East, which highlights its commitment to innovative craftsmanship and creation of unique pieces.
